PAAC Hosts March 18 Meeting at Turner Center

The Valdosta Public Art Advisory Committee (PAAC) will host their next monthly meeting on Thursday, March 18, at 11:30 a.m. In order to practice physical distancing, this public meeting will be held in the Josette’s Gallery of the Turner Center for the Arts, located at 527 N. Harlee Webb Joins Turner Center Staff as Full Time Art Educator

Harlee Webb was promoted to the full-time position of Art Education Administrator for the Annette Howell Turner Center for the Arts, effective February 2021.

Webb began her career at the Turner Center as a part-time employee, while she was an art student at the Valdosta State University.  Webb received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art Education degree from Valdosta State University in December 2020. In her new position at the Turner Center, Webb is responsible for overseeing the Center’s Art Education Program, all classes, and all art outreach for the community.

“Harlee passionately seeks and utilizes a myriad of resources to serve our community with the arts,” said Turner Center Executive Director Sementha Mathews. “Her excitement is contagious. As our campus grows, we look forward to Harlee’s ability to grow the Art Education Program and increase our reach across the populations we serve.”

Turner Center Celebrates Local Architecture with Guest Speaker Al Willis

The Annette Howell Turner Center for the Arts will host a free event celebrating the history of architecture in Valdosta. Guest speaker Dr. Al Willis will trace the history of the bricklaying craft in Valdosta from the beginning through the mid-20th century. Turner Center Hosts Youth Art Month

The Annette Howell Turner Center for the Arts will host the artwork of students from approximately 50 regional schools in the Youth Art Month exhibition, opening on Sunday, Feb. 28, from 1-4 p.m. Travis Pate State Farm is the sponsor of Youth Art Month 2021.

In conjunction with the National Art Education Association and the Council for Art Education, Youth Art Month celebrates a national recognition of youth art education. This exhibit allows art teachers across the region, as far north as Macon, Ga., the opportunity to select outstanding student art to be showcased in the Turner Center galleries for the month of March. Turner Center for the Arts’ New Gallery Exhibition Opening Reception Features DrawProject Scholarship Fundraiser

The Annette Howell Turner Center for the Arts’ opening reception is Monday, Jan. 11, from 5 to 7 p.m., at 527 N. Patterson Street. The Center’s first gallery opening of 2021 features the 14th Annual DrawProject, “She Said, She Said, She Said: A Collage Collective,” and the 2nd Annual Regional Artists Community (RAC) Exhibition.
