Turner Center Hosts Youth Art Month

The Annette Howell Turner Center for the Arts will host the artwork of students from approximately 50 regional schools in the Youth Art Month exhibition, opening on Sunday, Feb. 28, from 1-4 p.m. Travis Pate State Farm is the sponsor of Youth Art Month 2021.

In conjunction with the National Art Education Association and the Council for Art Education, Youth Art Month celebrates a national recognition of youth art education. This exhibit allows art teachers across the region, as far north as Macon, Ga., the opportunity to select outstanding student art to be showcased in the Turner Center galleries for the month of March. Turner Center for the Arts’ New Gallery Exhibition Opening Reception Features DrawProject Scholarship Fundraiser

The Annette Howell Turner Center for the Arts’ opening reception is Monday, Jan. 11, from 5 to 7 p.m., at 527 N. Patterson Street. The Center’s first gallery opening of 2021 features the 14th Annual DrawProject, “She Said, She Said, She Said: A Collage Collective,” and the 2nd Annual Regional Artists Community (RAC) Exhibition. St. John Middle School Tours Turner Center Galleries

Seventh grade students from St. John Catholic School visited the Annette Howell Turner Center for the Arts on Wednesday, December 16. The students and teachers Pam Rickman, Social Studies, and Christine Cabral, Art instructor and a member of the Center’s Regional Artists Community, were given a tour by the Center’s curator Bill Shenton. Mrs. Cabral said the students were particularly interested in the East African artifacts exhibit and VSU artist Julie Bowland’s plein air artworks, currently on display in the main gallery.

PAAC Hosts December Meeting in Bennie’s Alley, Downtown Valdosta

The Valdosta Public Art Advisory Committee (PAAC) will host their next monthly meeting on Friday, Dec. 4, 2020, at 4:40 p.m., re-scheduled from its original date due to Christmas holidays. This public meeting will be held in Bennie’s Alley, Downtown Valdosta, followed by a ribbon cutting for a new mural at 5 p.m. and the Annual Tree Lighting Celebration on the Courthouse Square at 6 p.m. Read More

Turner Center Hosts Bluegrass & BBQ

It’s Bluegrass & BBQ for the Turner Center’s Music in the Art Park concert on Friday, Nov. 13, from 7-9 p.m., featuring Lost Dogs Found—a bluegrass band from Hahira, Ga., who were recently inducted into the Georgia Country Music Hall of Fame. Sponsored by FLO Custom Apparel & Design and Johnson’s Frames & More, the concert is one of several FREE outdoor community events that have taken place this year in the Art Park, located at 605 N.
