The Annette Howell Turner Center for the Arts is gearing up to offer the Hal & Jill Project’s ukulele lessons to adults. Classes for beginner musicians ages 16 and up begin Monday, Feb. 1. Adult ukulele classes meet Mondays 6-7 p.m. on the second floor of the main building at 527 N. Patterson Street.
After expanding the Hal & Jill Project’s outreach program to offer ukulele lessons in addition to guitar lessons for youth, the Center is extending the program once again to offer ukulele lessons to adults. Beginner students will learn strumming, timing, basic chords and melodies.
Musician David Rodock is teaching both the Monday night adult and Tuesday night youth ukulele classes.
Thanks to generous community support, ukuleles can be provided for those who may not have their own. The Center is also accepting instrument donations to ensure each student has the tools to learn how to play. Classes are $40 per month for each student and scholarships are available. The Center follows CDC recommended safety policies and precautions, including face masks, physical distancing, and limited class sizes.
