The Annette Howell Turner Center for the Arts will host the Lloyd Carter Band from 7 pm to 9 pm at the Turner Center Art Park, 605 North Patterson St., on Fri., March 22, 2024. The concert is the second of 10 free, live performances in the 2024 Levitt AMP Valdosta Music Series, sponsored by the Mortimer and Mimi Levitt Foundation and The Price-Campbell Foundation.

Carter, a South Georgia native, has become a respected member of the independent country music scene, with two nominations for “Best Male Vocalist of the Year” by the Josie Music Awards and a nomination for “Male Artist of the Year” by the Georgia Country Awards to his name. Fellow band members also have extensive experience as touring artists, performing in gospel, country, and R&B acts around the nation.

Carter’s exposure to music began at a young age. His mother worked as a radio station manager, and his father’s family boasted a touring gospel quartet that performed at churches around the country. Carter became determined to be a musician in high school, when he taught himself to play drums, keyboard, and guitar. Three decades of practice and dedication to his craft culminated in the release of his debut album Nothing to Lose in 2020, which featured a performance by fellow Georgia singer-songwriter Colt Ford.

A lover of country music and all things romance, Carter cites artists like Keith Whitley, Steve Perry, Kenny Rogers, and Conway Twitty as musical inspirations, and seeks to blend classic country music with contemporary influences in his performances. “My favorite songwriter is one who can tell a story,” says Carter. “There’s nothing like painting a picture with words – that’s one of the magical things that I love most about music.”
