Impasto Painting Workshop with Aliyah Jones
April 26 @ 10:00 am - April 27 @ 1:00 pm

Impasto painting is a technique in which thick layers of paint are applied to a surface so that brush or palette knife strokes are visible. This technique is traditionally used with oil paint, but in this workshop, students will discover the time and cost saving benefits of thickening acrylic paint with a gel medium to mimic the thickness and luxuriousness of oil paint! Students will explore the different ways Impasto has been applied over the centuries, and the instructor will also demonstrate ways she uses this technique. After a brief introduction to a select few artists from different art movements within Western Art History, ranging from Realism to Post-Impressionism, students will have a chance to create their own Impasto paintings in an Impressionist style they choose!
Each student will complete a 10×10 painting on canvas in this workshop. To accommodate different levels of skill, students will have the option to draw their own image onto the canvas, or to choose a canvas with an image pre-sketched in order to expedite the painting process.
