South Georgia Entertainers Holds First Meeting of the New Year

The South Georgia Entertainers will meet on Tues., Jan. 17, from 6-8 p.m., at the Turner Center for the Arts located at 527 N. Patterson Street. SGE is led by local musicians Lloyd Carter (Lloyd Carter Band) and Aaron Strickland (Naturally Southern) and meets on the second Tuesday of each month (unless otherwise noted) at the Turner Center for the Arts in Valdosta. The group brings musicians of all ages and experience levels together to discuss key industry issues, regional opportunities available, and ways to support one another. Read More

Turner Center Extends Deadline for 3rd Annual “Art of Writing” Contest for Area Youth

The Annette Howell Turner Center for the Arts and the Young Writers League (YoWL) are seeking fiction, non-fiction, and poetry entries for the “Art of Writing” contest. The contest is open to legal residents of Georgia and Florida. Participants must be between the ages of 11 and 18 at time of entry. The contest is hosted annually and is sponsored in part by the Valdosta United Way. Each year, a different theme that inspires young people to express themselves concerning important topics is chosen. The theme for the third annual competition is “I Have a Dream.” Read More

Turner Center for the Arts Hosts First Gallery Opening of the Year

The Annette Howell Turner Center for the Arts will hold its first opening reception of the year tonight, Monday, Jan. 9, from 5 to 7 p.m., at 527 N. Patterson Street. The Center will feature the 16th Annual DrawProject; the 4th Annual Regional Artists Community Exhibit; and Sheila Goloborotko’s “Many Resilient Things,” a collection of sculpture, printmaking, and installation art works.
