Turner Center Invites Community to Annual Clean-Up Day Ahead of Children’s Imagination Station Opening

By April 23, 2026No Comments

The Annette Howell Turner Center for the Arts is calling on community members to roll up their sleeves and join in its Annual Clean-Up Day on Saturday, May 9, 2026, from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. This year’s event carries special significance as volunteers will help prepare the grounds for the highly anticipated opening of the Meta Shaw Coleman Children’s Imagination Station.

Community members of all ages are encouraged to participate in a morning of service focused on beautification, landscaping, and creative outdoor enhancements. The collective effort will help ensure the Turner Center campus is vibrant, welcoming, and ready to inspire young minds and families throughout the region.

Volunteers will have the opportunity to contribute to a variety of hands-on projects, including:

  • Planting seasonal flowers and refreshing garden spaces
  • Planting and mulching trees across the Campus
  • Assisting with pathway clean-up and edging
  • Installing decorative elements and signage
  • General campus clean-up and litter removal

“This annual event is a wonderful way for our community to come together and take pride in the shared creative space on the Turner Center Campus,” said Executive Director Sementha Mathews, Ph.D. “With the near opening of the Children’s Imagination Station, this year’s clean-up day is especially meaningful as we prepare a place where creativity and play will flourish.”

Participants are encouraged to bring gloves, gardening tools, and a willingness to work as a team. Water and lunch will be provided for all registered volunteers.

Whether you’re a seasoned gardener or simply looking for a way to give back, the Turner Center welcomes the community’s support in making this event a success.
