Turner Center Seeks Entries from Youth for 5th Annual Art of Writing Contest

The Turner Center for the Arts and the Young Writers League (YoWL) are seeking fiction, non-fiction, and poetry entries for the 5th Annual Art of Writing Contest. The contest is open to middle and high school students in fifth through twelfth grades in Georgia and the surrounding states. The entry deadline is Sat., Jan. 11, 2025. A theme that inspires young people to express themselves concerning important topics is chosen each year. The theme for 2025 is “Courage.”

Turner Center for the Arts Hosts First Gallery Opening of 2025

The Annette Howell Turner Center for the Arts will hold its first opening reception of the year on Mon., Jan. 13, from 5 to 7 p.m., at the Turner Center Galleries, located at 527 N. Patterson Street. The Center’s exhibit will feature the 18th Annual DrawProject; the 6th Annual Regional Artists Community Exhibit; and Todd Wessel’s “After the Hurricane.” Admission is free, and light refreshments will be provided.

Children’s Imagination Station Breaks Ground on Turner Center Campus

After more than two years of planning and fundraising, the Meta Shaw Coleman Children’s Imagination Station breaks ground at 512 N. Ashley Street, on the campus of the Annette Howell Turner Center for the Arts. The projected grand opening of this regional-serving educational resource is scheduled for early December 2025.

The Annette Howell Turner Center for the Arts will host Gogh Green, an upscale art resale event, on Mon., Dec. 2, from 6 to 8 pm at 527 N. Patterson St., Valdosta. Patrons will be allowed to take home their purchases knowing their support of this event will benefit different educational programs provided by the Turner Center for the Arts.
