Public Art Community Open Studio

The Turner Center for the Arts invites you to attend a series of Community Open Studios with Artist-in-Residence Joel Dion.
These Open Studios for community members begins Friday, June 26, from 1 to 3:30 p.m., in the Hudson Building across Webster Street from the Turner Center.
During this open studio, Joel will be rolling clay slabs to create tiles that will be used in the public art work he is creating with the help of community members and teens from the Boys’ and Girls’ Club of Valdosta. Joel will be creating tiles using relief carving and sgraffito techniques.
Additional Community Open Studios:
July 2 and 3 – Clay carving and decal transfers
July 16, 17, and 23 – Glazing tiles
Anyone interested in these processes and who would like to assist the artist create this public art mural is invited to come help him! You can also simply drop by and observe the artist at work. Each open studio will be from 1 to 3:30 p.m. and several more may be added in July.
Come and be a part of the public art landscape in Valdosta!
Attendees should wear work clothes or bring an apron. Please come at the beginning of the studio time if you wish to help with the tile carving, glazing or any other hands-on activities. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

The Summer Artist-in-Resident Program is made possible through a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts with matching funds from the Price-Campbell Foundation.
