GLASS ARTS
Stained Glass
Class meets 1st OR 3rd Monday of each month | 6-9pm
In this class for all experience levels, students will learn the basics of stained glass. Class material includes designing, cutting, soldering and framing the created work. Students will make one piece, which is typically 4x4 in size. Closed-toe shoes are required.
Fused Glass
Class meets 2nd OR 4th Monday of each month | 6-8pm
In this class, students from all experience levels learn the basics of working with fusible sheet glass, including how to cut and assemble glass and how the kiln fusing process works. Upon completion, the participant's project will be loaded into a fusing kiln to melt the glass design into a finished piece! Closed-toe shoes are required.
Flameworking 101
Class meets 2nd Wednesday of each month | 6-8pm
In this class, which requires no previous experience, the students will learn to melt and shape borosilicate glass at the torch to make small beads and marbles. Students will also learn the types of flames, the difference between hot and cold seals, and how to use them to their advantage. Closed-toe shoes are required.
Glass Arts Open Studio
Saturdays | 11am-1pm
Want more time to practice your preferred glass art technique? In this class, the instructor will be present to assist you with your preference of stained glass, flameworking, or fused glass, and answer any questions you may have. You are free to create at your own pace. Sign up for multiple Open Studios to perfect your glass shaping skills! Closed-toe shoes are required.
Prerequisite: You must have taken at least one Stained Glass Class at the Turner Center before indicating registration for a Stained Glass Open Studio, Flameworking Class at the Turner Center before indicating registration for a Flameworking Open Studio, or one Fused Glass Class at the Turner Center before indicating registration for a Fused Glass Open Studio.
Supplies: All students may choose to purchase their own glass, or to pay the Turner Center $20 for a package of glass for the open studio. For stained glass and fused glass open studios, this $20 bundle includes one 12x12 clear plate of glass, as well as a 6x6 plate of a warm color (red, pink, or purple), a 6x6 plate of a cool color (blue or green), and a 6x6 plate of black or white. For flameworking/beadmaking, this $20 bundle includes 2 clear rods of glass, as well as a rod in a warm color (red, pink, or purple), a rod in a cool color (blue or green), and a rod in white or black. For students purchasing their own glass, reference the following websites: Anything in Stained Glass, Mountain Glass, and Delphi Glass. All purchased glass must be determined to be kiln safe (oceanside compatible and system 96 tested). Students may send an email to glassart@turncenter.org to verify the compatibility of glass before purchasing. Glass that has already been purchased must have the original sticker listing it as oceanside compatible and system 96 tested to be used in the Richard Hill Glass Studio.
Glass Mosaics Workshop

In this workshop, students will use specialty tools to cut and shape sheet glass, then glue the glass into a colorful mosaic pattern. All supplies provided and no prior experience needed. Please allow a minimum of 72 hours after the class for art pickup, to allow the instructor to grout and seal the mosaics. Closed-toe shoes are required.
Glassblowing Workshop
Saturdays | 11am-1pm, 2-3pm, 1-hour increments
Sundays | 2-5pm, 1-hour increments
This in-depth, one-on-one class for all experience levels focuses on the process of shaping molten glass into the student's desired creation. Students will choose and design a piece from one of several shapes. These options include a bowl, vase, or cup. Class material will include safety, tools and materials, and how to properly shape the glass and add color. Bring friends and family to cheer you on! Closed-toe shoes are required.

Glassblowing Experience
Saturdays | 3-4pm, 30-minute increments
Sundays | 1-2pm, 30-minute increments
Want to try your hand at glassblowing but not sure what you’re getting into? Sign up for this thirty-minute glass experience to try it out! In this class, students will work one-on-one with the instructor to create a glass keepsake. Students will choose to make a float, ornament, or a paperweight in the shape of a heart, orb, bird, or flower. Closed-toe shoes are required.
