Harlee Webb was promoted to the full-time position of Art Education Administrator for the Annette Howell Turner Center for the Arts, effective February 2021.
Webb began her career at the Turner Center as a part-time employee, while she was an art student at the Valdosta State University. Webb received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art Education degree from Valdosta State University in December 2020. In her new position at the Turner Center, Webb is responsible for overseeing the Center’s Art Education Program, all classes, and all art outreach for the community.
“Harlee passionately seeks and utilizes a myriad of resources to serve our community with the arts,” said Turner Center Executive Director Sementha Mathews. “Her excitement is contagious. As our campus grows, we look forward to Harlee’s ability to grow the Art Education Program and increase our reach across the populations we serve.”

Guest speaker Dr. Al Willis will trace the history of the bricklaying craft in Valdosta from the beginning through the mid-20th century. The Annette Howell Turner Center for the Arts will host the artwork of students from approximately 50 regional schools in the Youth Art Month exhibition, opening on Sunday, Feb. 28, from 1-4 p.m. Travis Pate State Farm is the sponsor of Youth Art Month 2021.
In conjunction with the National Art Education Association and the Council for Art Education, Youth Art Month celebrates a national recognition of youth art education. This exhibit allows art teachers across the region, as far north as Macon, Ga., the opportunity to select outstanding student art to be showcased in the Turner Center galleries for the month of March. The Annette Howell Turner Center for the Arts and the Young Writers League (YoWL) are seeking fiction, non-fiction and poetry entries for “The Art of Writing” contest, open to middle and high school students in Valdosta, Lowndes County, and students throughout south Georgia and north Florida.
The contest will be hosted annually with a different theme each year that inspires young people to express themselves concerning important topics. The inaugural theme is “Living United” and is sponsored in part by the Valdosta United Way. Read More

The purpose of PAAC is to further the purchase, creation and appreciation of public art for its aesthetic value to the community. The PAAC also encourages the preservation and protection of works of public art which play a vital role in the economic development of the community.

Mark Miller (far right) of Atlanta, Ga., and Terri Winefordner (second from left) of Orlando, Fla., are brother and sister who haven’t seen each other in a year, on account of the COVID pandemic. Mark and his two daughters, also pictured, met Winefordner on Feb. 6 at the Annette Howell Turner Center for the Arts—the halfway point between them. They said they chose to have their reunion at the Turner Center due to its spacious and inspiring art atmosphere. The Turner Center continues to be a gathering place for special occasions and events.
