Turner Center Offers Spring Artist Workshop

Local artist Aliyah Jones will lead an Impasto Painting Workshop at the Turner Center for the Arts on Saturday, April 26 and Sunday, April 27, 10am-1pm each day. The workshop is beginner-friendly for ages 14+.

Jones, a Valdosta native, began taking art classes at the Turner Center upon the recommendation of a middle school teacher. Jones continued her pursuit of the arts throughout high school, earning accolades such as having a watercolor painting to honor Holocaust victims displayed at the Georgia State capital and placing first in the Valdosta State University (VSU) High School Invitational. She went on to earn a scholarship to VSU, where she completed her BFA and continued to place in area juried competitions, including at the Turner Center. Over a decade later, she placed 1st in the painting category at the Turner Center’s 37th Annual Spring into Art Exhibition in the spring of 2024.

Turner Center Presents Pop Rock Artists “The Band Light” – the Sixth Concert of the 2025 Levitt AMP Valdosta Music Series

The Annette Howell Turner Center for the Arts will host The Band Light, from 7 to 9 pm at the Turner Center Art Park, 605 North Patterson St., on Fri., April 11, 2025. The concert is the sixth of 10 free live performances in the 2025 Levitt AMP Valdosta Music Series, sponsored by the Mortimer and Mimi Levitt Foundation, The Price-Campbell Foundation, WALB News 10, Lamar Advertising, and the Valdosta Daily Times.

Student Spotlight: Kamryx Davis Continues Learning Artistically

Kamryx Davis, an Interdisciplinary Studies student at Valdosta State University, has been exploring various artistic fields since childhood.

Davis has been a guitar student at the Turner Center for the Arts for nearly a year, taking classes through The Hal & Jill Project: Beginning Guitar Lessons. When asked why she decided to learn guitar, Davis said, “Guitar is my instrument of choice because I want to play an instrument that doesn’t require me to blow on it to produce sound – and I was inspired by the many cool guitar riffs I’ve heard.”

Turner Center Launches Levitt AMP Valdosta Music Series with $90K Matching Grant

10 Weekly Outdoor Concerts, Free to the Community, Aug. 17-Oct. 26

The Annette Howell Turner Center for the Arts will launch the Levitt AMP Valdosta Music Series on Thursday, Aug. 17, from 7-9 p.m., in the Turner Center Art Park. The Aug. 17 concert will kick off several weeks of outdoor music events, free for the community, as a result of a $90,000 matching grant the Turner Center received from the Levitt Foundation in November 2022. The grant is matched by the Price-Campbell Foundation for the 2023 season.

This 2-hour class teaches the basics of working with fusible sheet glass. Participant will learn how to cut and assemble glass, and the kiln fusing process. Upon completion, the participant’s project will be loaded into a fusing kiln to melt the glass design into a finished piece. Disclaimer: Students will need to pick up artwork on a later date. Students have two weeks to pick-up once called.
