Our January Artist of the Month is Mixed Media artist Ruth Bren from Valdosta, GA

I was born and raised in rural Ontario, Canada where my appreciation for the beauty of nature first inspired my creative talents.  I consider myself to be a mix media artist as my interests in drawing, watercolor painting , fiber arts, including hand stitching and quilting  began at a young age and continue today. Having no formal training in art, I  have developed  my artistic skills through self discovery and working close with other talented  artists.

Since 1975 I began working with leather, creating designs that replicate nature. Designs include butterflies, dragonflies and flowers,  fashioned into wearable art and sculptures for display, some designs are mounted on found wood and other designs are mounted in shadow box frames. My leather work has been displayed and sold across Canada and the USA.  I have been honored to receive awards for Best in Show at the Signature Art Show  in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

I moved to the USA in 2017 and live in Valdosta, GA with my husband where I now display and sell my leather work and mix media art at Kaleidoscope Gallery and Emporium and the Turner Center Gift Shop. I have been awarded Honorable Mention in 2024 and 2025 Spring into Art Show, Turner Center for the Arts, Valdosta, GA.
