Standing Wool Faberge Egg Workshop

March 23 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

standing wool egg

As the saying goes, “Everything old is new again.” Recycling old wool clothing into new rugs and mats is just one reason why the “old” technique known as standing wool is gaining popularity again. Before the industrial revolution, frugal housewives developed the standing wool technique to eke out every last drop of wear from cloth that required so much effort and time to create. Beautiful works of art could be made from wool scraps and thread from outgrown garments by setting the wool scraps on edge and sewing them together with a long needle and strong thread. There has been a renaissance in the popularity of standing wool rugs, also known as quillies for their resemblance to quilled paper. Creative and intricate new works are regularly posted on social media platforms like Facebook and Pinterest. In this class you will learn how to make circle quillies, then glue them to a paper Mache Egg. Your kit, which is included in the class fee, has everything you need to complete this unique piece of fiber art.
